Martin excited to suit up for Bulls

The EnviroNZ Franklin Bulls are pleased to announce that Christian Martin will sign with the team for the 2022 Sal’s NBL season.

Christian completed his high school career with Westlake Boys High School with a 44 point outing to send his team to the Auckland Grand Final against Rangitoto College. A match that was unfortunately never played due to COVID-19.

With that said, Martin is ready to step up to the highest level of basketball in New Zealand with the EnviroNZ Franklin Bulls.

Christian is Maori (Tuhoe, Ngati Whakaue, Ngati Porou, Ngati Kahungunu) whom was born and raised in Auckland. He was the team captain for Westlake Boys High School in 2021 and the recipient of the Kirk Penney Trophy for Most Valuable Player.

Martin was named in the U19 national tournament team in 2021. Yet another achievement indicating his pedigree.

Head Coach Morgan Maskell is excited to have a player like Christian join the organisation. “We are incredibly excited to have Christian. He has been one of the best young players in the nation, he has a great body and a very diverse skill set. The jump from high school to Sal’s NBL is a big one, but with Christian’s work ethic and willingness to learn gives me the confidence that he will be successful in making this leap.”

Martin can’t wait to perform in front of the Franklin fans. “I can’t wait to experience the loud cheers and roars from the great bulls fans out in Pukekohe this year. The whole fan base and community are awesome and can’t wait to play in front of them.”

The coaching staff was a big pull for Christian over other teams.

“I’ve known Morgan since the under 15 level. I’ve always known him to be a great coach. I am very excited to work with the many great assistant coaches the Bulls have, along with the wider management team here!”

Martin joins Denhym Brooke, Kane Bennett-Keil, Jayden Bezzant, Anzac Rissetto, Josh Leger, and Jett Thompson on the roster so far for the 2022 EnviroNZ Franklin Bulls.

The Bulls tip off their season on April 7th vs the Auckland Tuatara.
